Inspire
Conference 2006
Inspire's national conference, Inspire,
Celebrate, Challenge, Create was held British
Library Conference Centre, London on Tuesday
25 April.
The conference, drew an audience of over 170 people
from all library sectors as well as representation from the Adult
Education and Lifelong Learning community.
The presentations looked
at issues of access to libraries and learning from a very wide range
of viewpoints. Chris Batt, Chief Executive of the MLA Partnership,
encouraged us to focus on the needs of the learner and invited the
audience to “Be inspired by Inspire”. John Stone, newly appointed
Chief Executive of the Learning Support Network, spoke about the transformation
of e-learning and Phil Hope, MP, in a pre-recorded speech, underlined
the key part that libraries can play in “finding new ways to get people
involved in learning, focusing specifically on local need and making
better use of the resources already in place.”
There are links from
the Programme to all the presentations from the conference and to
the speakers' biographies.
Comments from our audience:
“Excellent conference, I got a lot out of it”
“By the end of the day
I felt that I'd been given a good perspective of access in its broadest
sense”
“… a very informative and enjoyable day, … delighted to see
so many people from varying libraries present”
“Very useful to hear
other people's experiences and raise the whole discussion from local
issues to national ones.”
“As a non-member of Inspire, I learnt a
lot and it has prompted me to find out more about this initiative.
Many thanks for an enjoyable and useful day”
