Co-operation and access schemes in Irish libraries

Introduction
Libraries and information services  in the Republic of Ireland can be broadly divided into six main groups (see below). Amongst them there are already co-operative work and, following a ‘Pathways to Learning’ Conference in November 2006,  COLICO, (Committee on Library Co-operation in Ireland) is now investigating the establishment of two new library access initiatives in Ireland, inspired by the work of the FOYLE group and Inspire in England. These will be firstly, a regional scheme for which preparations are well underway and secondly a scheme based around access to music resources.
